Moms often don’t know what to ask when finding a newborn photography studio. As a mom myself, I can tell you how wonderful it would be if they could get the answers they need. I know they’ll appreciate knowing what questions to ask and which signs point to a photographer that will fit their needs.
To help your search, this post will provide guidelines for finding a great photographer for your style and situation. Knowing these details will help you make an informed decision about connecting with the potential photographer on your list.
As new parents, getting your newborn to look at the camera and smile is difficult. With so many photographers out there, you want to make sure you’re picking someone who knows what they’re doing and can get that perfect shot.Â
I am Bia, a professional baby photographer in Milton who has been working in the industry since 2016. I don’t just take good photos; I tell stories with them. I am an artist and believe in storytelling through my artistic photography.Â
For our client’s ease, I have compiled a list of commonly asked questions to help you get a fair idea of how to go about your newborn’s photo shoot.
How Will You Ensure You Have Availability For My Newborn Session? What Happens If I Deliver Early Or Late?Â
I will encourage you to book your newborn session during your third trimester and pick a date 7 days after your due date. I’m always flexible if the baby arrives a little early or late. I understand that things can happen unexpectedly, and I will work with you to ensure I can still capture those precious first few days.
What If My Baby Doesn’t Settle Or Fall Asleep Right Away?
If your baby doesn’t settle or fall asleep right away, don’t worry! Sometimes babies take some time to settle in an unfamiliar environment.Â
Remember, there’s no rush, and as a professional baby photographer, I understand that patience is the key to keeping the baby comfortable.Â
What Precautions Do You Take To Keep The Baby Safe And Comfortable?
When it comes to your newborn’s safety, I take every precaution possible. I have a clean and safe studio where I sanitize all the props and outfits on a regular basis.Â
Comfort is a top priority for me. I never force babies into positions that make them uncomfortable. In addition, I ensure that the studio’s template is comfortable for the baby.Â
I want you to feel confident that your baby is in good hands when you come to Giggles Newborn Studio for your newborn shoot.Â
What Does Your Fee Include, And What Is The Timeline?
As a newborn photographer in Milton, my fee includes the cost of time as well as any props, backdrops, or materials used during the session.
The average newborn photography session lasts 1-3 hours but may be shorter or longer, depending on the needs of your little one.
Timeline-wise, you can expect to receive your proofing gallery the next business day after the shoot. I usually deliver the edited images within 1-2 weeks after you select your photos from the proofing gallery.
What Poses Are Included In The Session, And Who Is Included In The Session?
There are various poses that can be included in a newborn session, and it is important to discuss with your photographer beforehand what you are looking for. I pose newborns according to their comfort and mood on photoshoot day.
Posed shots usually involve the baby being propped up or held in various positions by the photographer. These can be very cute but do take some time to set up.
What Do I Need To Bring To My Session?
When you book a newborn photography session, I will send you a list of what to bring and what to expect. It is important to follow our guidelines closely, so your baby is comfortable during the session.
Most photographers will provide everything you need for the session, including props and outfits. However, it is always best to bring a few extra items.
Here is a list of suggested items to bring to your newborn photography session:
- A favorite blanket or toy for your baby to cuddle with
- DiapersÂ
- A change of clothes for both you and your baby in case of accidents
- A pacifier, if your baby uses one
- Any special items that have meaning to you and your family (such as a family heirloom)
If you have any questions about what to bring or what to expect, be sure to ask us before. I will be happy to help you ensure that your session goes smoothly and that you are prepared for everything.
How Long Are Your Newborn Sessions?
Newborn sessions are typically 1-3 hours long. This allows plenty of time for feeding, diapering, and comforting breaks. I like to keep things relaxed and easygoing so the baby and parents are comfortable.

What Age Do You Schedule Newborn Sessions?
As a professional newborn photographer, I am able to manage babies of all ages. However, I prefer that newborn sessions be scheduled when the baby is between 5-20 days old. This time frame allows for the most flexibility in capturing those sleepy, curled-up poses that are so characteristic of newborns. Older babies tend to be more alert and less cooperative, so it’s best to schedule your session while the baby is still very young.
I always recommend scheduling your newborn session before the baby is born so you can be sure to get a spot on my calendar. I recommend booking your slot during your third trimester, so it’s never too early to start planning!
Do You Offer Wardrobe Options For Mom?
Yes, I offer wardrobe options for moms! I have a wide variety of gowns, dresses, and maternity bodysuits available. Please contact me to discuss your wardrobe.Â
Do You Offer Prints?
When it comes to newborn photography, one of the first questions many parents have is whether or not the photographer offers prints. This is an important question to ask, as you want to be sure that you can display your child’s photos in a way you love.
Most newborn photographers offer a variety of print and wall art options, so you should be able to find something that fits your style and budget. Be sure to ask about the different sizes and finishes available and the turnaround time for orders.
