Your child’s first birthday is never complete without a Cakesmash session. Believe it or not? It’s his first, and as a loving mom, you want to fill it with joy & happiness.

What is Cake Smash Photography?
Cakesmash photography is a trending photography session that has become quite popular in Canada and the United States. Every parent wants to capture such precious moments of celebrations with perfection and are always looking for good photographers.
Cakesmash, as the name suggests, is where your child gets real messy with the cake!
And while they are being their naughty self, I capture them in different moods ending the process with a bubble bath. There’s nothing better than watching your kid make the funny sounds and getting all cute and cozy in the bubble bath!
I make sure to capture them in all the cute little poses.
My Cake Smash Photography Process
It all starts with my clients contacting me to discuss their shoot. I always advise them to reach out when the child is 11 months old. This allows me enough time to make the arrangements for their cake smash.
On the day of the shoot, I encourage my client not to bring any cake with them. It’s because I want to present them with a cake especially made just for them. It’s more of a compliment from my end, because after all, I love my clients.
If my clients have any specific requirements, I do entertain them. For instance, if your baby is allergic to certain ingredients, I ask them to inform me beforehand.
Backdrops & Costumes
As for the backdrops, I consult with my client beforehand on what type of backdrop or color scheme they would want.
If you’re confused about the props, I have a wide range of props available that we can use for your child’s cake smash photography session.
Once we have decided on the backdrops and props, it’s time to get started.
Costumes are what add life to the shoot and your child’s cake smash deserves the best! I do have plenty of options available in the studio but if the client wants to dress their child in something specific, I don’t mind that either.
If the child requires a comfort toy or additional feed, the clients are welcome to bring that to the shoot.
It all starts with some simple shots of the birthday baby with the cake and then we let them go ahead and smash the birthday!

The Cake Smash Photography Session
Giving the parents & baby enough time to get comfortable in the environment is at the heart of everything. To make sure they are having a good time is what I truly aim for before proceeding forward with the cake smash photography.
Usually, I spend a few minutes making the clients and the baby comfortable. I begin once they’re feeling comfortable.
My session involves taking a few snapshots first just to check the baby’s mood. And as soon as the baby’s happy hormones kick-in, that’s my sweet spot.
The baby simply plays with the cake and I capture their images.
After the cake smash session is complete, it’s time to take a few shots of the baby in the bathtub. Here’s another chance for me to capture some more cute pictures.
Usually on the day after the shoot, I share the proofing gallery with my clients to pick out a few clicks that are perfect for them. With their confirmation, I proceed forward with the post-processing step. And voila! There you go, your child’s first cake smash is done.
Post Processing
All the pictures that I take during the cake smash session go through my editing process. This is to make sure that each and every picture is perfect before it goes to the client.
